Does Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy actually work?
I was wondering if hypnosis actually works. I have been fighting being really shy, low self confidence and esteem, which results in depression. It sucks to be horrible at dating which seems to be tied in with low self confidence.
So i was wondering if it actually worked? In general my body is always very tense and i find it very difficult to relax. It could be something to do with ADD.
Thanks
Scott
Hypnosis seem to work differently for each person.
It also depends which methods you are using, and if you are using it on yourself, listening to a cd with someone elses voice.
You also have to keep an open mind when doing the session, any critical thinking will get into the way of your progress.
Hypnosis can be really great if used right, of cource the effects can wear of but at least you then have experienced the feeling (of being less shy for example) and will probably be less shy even when the hypnosis have worn of. (because you know there is nothing to be afraid of really)

Yes, and I never thought I'd say that…. here is the true story
My mother used to smoke…doctor told her she had to stop (long story) and she could not. We four children and my dad did all we could, but finally all us kids got together after she failed with the Betty Ford Center and told her if she did not stop smoking none of us would be visiting her home.
This hit her in the heart of course, so as a last resort, my strong-willed mom went to a hypnotist that was recommended by one of the professors at the college she worked.
Believe it or not, this woman used to say she could never be hypnotised, but she was, and she soon quit smoking for good. I would have bet against it, and lost.

For hypnosis or hyponotherapy to actually work you need to get in a medatative set of mind, so that the therapist is actually speaking to your subconscious mind. If you can’t achieve a completely relaxed state like that, hypnotherapy will never work for you. However, if you plan on going to a hypontherapist, practice meditation for a few weeks prior so you don’t waste your money.
If you can achieve the relaxed state of mind, it absolutely works. If you can’t its a waste of money.
Hope I helped.

It does sometimes.
I had a friend who went and quit smoking.
Then this other guy went for smoking and he quit too. So then he went back to quit drinking so much.
It did last awhile with that guy, but then he went right back to drinking and smoking.
The other one never smoked anymore.
For shyness it could work, and if it did wear off you would already have the experience and could over come by yourself. : )

I basically agree with most of what everyone here said. Self hypnosis is very effective changing some behaviours and it does work for getting rid of shyness. I can attest to that; and I also have ADD. I recommend the following b/c it has worked for me.
